The USP, or Universal Self-loading Pistol, was originally designed for the American market and has since found international acceptance as an accurate and ultra-reliable handgun. Much of its design criteria came from features favored by U.S. law enforcement and military users, and its controls are uniquely American, influenced by designs such as the Government Model 1911.

The USP Expert builds off that platform and is competition ready out of the box. It uses a 5.2 inch barrel and a one-piece steel slide, with adjustable target sights offering micrometer adjustment for windage and elevation. The extended slide gives a 7.48 inch sight radius.

The V1 designation refers to the trigger group: double action/single action with a combination thumb safety and decocking lever, frame mounted on the left side rather than slide mounted. The magazine release is ambidextrous.

The frame is fiber-reinforced polymer with stainless steel inserts at areas subject to stress and friction, a construction HK pioneered in handgun production. It carries universal mounting grooves for accessories.

HK's patented recoil reduction system is built into the recoil assembly. It is the same system used in the Mark 23, is insensitive to ammunition type, and requires no adjustment or maintenance.
