Description
Uberti 342811 1873 Limited Edition Short Rifle Deluxe .45 Colt 20" Lever-Action Rifle
The Uberti 1873 Limited Edition Short Rifle Deluxe takes the standard Model 1873 short-rifle configuration and adds a fully engraved case-hardened receiver, A-grade satin walnut furniture, and an oversized "John Wayne" loop lever. Chambered in .45 Colt, it uses a 20-inch octagonal barrel and 10+1 tubular magazine while preserving the traditional toggle-link action and external-hammer layout of the 1873 platform.
The engraving is based on a 19th-century pattern and includes game and scroll motifs. Uberti states that the work is hand-chased by Atelier Giovanelli, giving the Limited Edition a specific decorative treatment tied to traditional engraving practice rather than a generic factory embellishment.
The rest of the rifle remains mechanically recognizable as a Model 1873: cartridges feed from a tubular magazine through a side loading gate, the lever cycles the toggle-link action, and the exposed hammer is cocked as the action closes.
Fully Engraved Case-Hardened Receiver
The steel receiver is case hardened and fully engraved, with the pattern extending the historical presentation beyond the plain-finished receiver used on more basic 1873 configurations.
The case-hardened receiver is paired with a similarly finished lever, while the octagonal barrel uses a blued steel finish. The contrast between case-hardened steel, blued barrel, and A-grade walnut gives the rifle a finish combination rooted in traditional 19th-century sporting and presentation rifles.
"John Wayne" Loop Lever
The Limited Edition uses an oversized loop lever that Uberti identifies as the "John Wayne" loop. Mechanically, it performs the same function as the standard 1873 lever but provides additional clearance around the firing hand.
Uberti notes that the larger loop also allows easier operation while wearing gloves. More importantly for identification, it is one of the visible factory features that separates this Limited Edition from a conventional 1873 Short Rifle Deluxe.
.45 Colt with 20-Inch Octagonal Barrel
The rifle is chambered in .45 Colt and uses a 20-inch octagonal barrel with six-groove rifling and a 1:16 right-hand twist. Magazine capacity is 10+1.
The 20-inch barrel keeps the rifle within Uberti's Short Rifle configuration rather than the longer Sporting Rifle format. At 36 inches overall and approximately 8.2 pounds, it retains the compact proportions of the short rifle while adding the weight associated with the octagonal barrel, steel receiver, and full-length magazine assembly.
A-Grade Satin Walnut Furniture
Uberti fits this model with A-grade satin walnut rather than standard-grade furniture. The upgraded wood is part of the Limited Edition specification and complements the engraved receiver and case-hardened metalwork without changing the basic straight-stock geometry of the 1873 rifle.
The combination of higher-grade walnut and hand-chased engraving is what gives this configuration its collector context; those details are tied directly to the factory model rather than being aftermarket additions.
Traditional Model 1873 Action
The rifle retains the toggle-link lever action associated with the Model 1873. Cycling the lever extracts and ejects the fired case, raises the next cartridge from the tubular magazine, chambers it, and cocks the external hammer.
That mechanical layout is unchanged by the deluxe treatment. The Limited Edition is therefore a presentation-grade interpretation of the familiar 1873 action rather than a mechanically different variant.

Collector Context
The collector interest in this model comes from its factory configuration rather than rarity claims that are difficult to substantiate. Uberti combines the Model 1873 Short Rifle platform with hand-chased period-pattern engraving, case-hardened steel, A-grade walnut, and the oversized loop lever as part of the original 342811 specification.
That makes it materially different from a standard 1873 Short Rifle or basic Deluxe model while preserving the same underlying action and .45 Colt chambering. For a collector comparing factory Uberti 1873 variants, those documented production features are the details that define the Limited Edition.
