The X is HK's crossover. Compact slide, full-size frame. It puts the 4.09 inch barrel and slide from the K model onto the F model's grip frame, so you get the shorter slide without giving up grip length or capacity.

That matters because most crossover pistols do it the other way around. They shorten the grip, which is the part you need for a repeatable firing hold and the part that carries the rounds. HK left the frame alone and cut the slide instead. All four fingers on the grip, 17 rounds flush, and less slide hanging off the front.

On the draw and on transitions, that shorter slide is less mass to swing and settle. It is a real difference at speed, and it is the whole argument for this configuration.

The Holosun SCS comes installed from the factory with a green reticle. It mounts directly to the VP9 optic cut with no adapter plate, which keeps the sight line low and removes the plate as a failure point. One less interface to check torque on.

A1 updates carry over: an integral magwell molded into the frame for faster reloads, a nickel-Teflon coated trigger bar, and revised controls.
