The original VP9 in flat dark earth. Striker-fired 9mm, 4.09 inch barrel, 17+1, black serrated slide on an FDE polymer frame. Ships with three 17-round magazines and night sights installed.

The barrel is cold hammer forged from cannon grade steel with a polygonal bore profile. No sharp lands and grooves means less surface for fouling to pack into, and HK credits the profile with a slight muzzle velocity increase and extended barrel life.

Grip adjustment is the platform's defining feature. Three backstraps and three sets of lateral grip panels ship in the box, which HK counts as 27 configurations. Combined with the frame's grip angle, front strap contour, and high rear saddle, the gun can be fitted to most hand sizes without aftermarket parts.

Controls are fully ambidextrous. HK's charging supports mount on both sides at the rear of the slide and add leverage for racking, which matters with gloves, wet hands, or one-handed manipulation.

The trigger has short, light take-up, a single-action-style break, and a short positive reset.

An extended Picatinny MIL-STD-1913 rail is molded into the frame. The trigger guard is serrated. The machined steel slide carries a corrosion-resistant finish.
