Description

Garmin Enduro 2 Solar GPS Smartwatch for Endurance Athletes

The Garmin Enduro 2 is designed for ultrarunners, endurance athletes, adventure racers, hikers, and other users who prioritize battery life, reliable navigation, and low weight over a bright AMOLED display. Its 51mm platform combines a Power Sapphire solar charging lens, titanium bezel, multi-band GPS, preloaded TopoActive maps, a built-in LED flashlight, and advanced Garmin training tools in a watch specifically developed for long-duration activities.

The defining advantage of the Enduro 2 is endurance. Garmin rates the watch for up to 110 hours in GPS-only mode, extending to as much as 150 hours with sufficient solar exposure. In smartwatch mode, battery life reaches up to 34 days, or up to 46 days with solar. For athletes preparing for ultramarathons, multiday races, expeditions, or extended backcountry trips, that reduces the need to manage charging during the activity itself.

Power Sapphire Solar Charging

The Enduro 2 uses Garmin's Power Sapphire lens, combining scratch-resistant sapphire with solar charging capability. Solar exposure supplements the internal rechargeable battery while the watch is being worn, helping extend runtime during long periods outdoors.

Solar charging does not eliminate the need for conventional charging, and the amount of additional runtime depends on light conditions and exposure. Garmin's solar battery estimates assume specific levels of outdoor light, so actual results will vary with environment, clothing coverage, activity type, and watch settings.

Built Specifically for Long-Distance Events

Battery efficiency is useful only if the watch remains practical to wear for extended periods. The Enduro 2 uses a titanium bezel, fiber-reinforced polymer case with titanium rear cover, and Garmin's lightweight UltraFit nylon strap. The complete watch weighs approximately 70 grams with the UltraFit strap installed.

The nylon hook-and-loop design allows quick adjustment and avoids the heavier construction of a conventional metal or thick silicone band. Garmin also includes a black silicone band for users who prefer a more traditional strap.

Multi-Band GPS with SatIQ Technology

The Enduro 2 supports multi-band GNSS positioning, allowing the watch to receive multiple satellite frequencies. This can improve positioning performance in locations where terrain, trees, buildings, or other obstructions interfere with satellite signals.

Garmin's SatIQ technology automatically determines when higher-accuracy multi-band positioning is beneficial and when a less power-intensive satellite mode is sufficient. For endurance users, the practical benefit is a better balance between positional accuracy and battery consumption rather than simply operating the highest-power GPS mode throughout an entire event.

TopoActive Maps and NextFork Navigation

Preloaded TopoActive maps provide detailed geographic information directly on the watch, allowing runners, hikers, and adventure racers to navigate without relying entirely on a phone. The touchscreen can be used for map interaction while Garmin's traditional physical buttons remain available when running, wearing gloves, or operating in wet conditions.

NextFork map guidance adds useful context on trails by showing the distance to the next trail intersection along with the name of the upcoming trail when that information is available. This helps users understand where they are on a route rather than simply following an unlabeled line on a map.

Built-In LED Flashlight

A dedicated LED flashlight is integrated into the Enduro 2 case. Garmin designed it to provide considerably more useful illumination than simply turning up the brightness of the watch display.

The flashlight includes adjustable brightness, a red-light setting, and a strobe mode. The strobe can be configured to match running cadence, providing an additional visibility option for training before sunrise, after dark, or during overnight portions of an endurance event.

Grade-Adjusted Pace for Changing Terrain

Maintaining a fixed pace becomes less meaningful when a course repeatedly climbs and descends. Grade-Adjusted Pace provides an estimated equivalent pace that accounts for changes in terrain, giving runners additional context when comparing effort across uphill, downhill, and flatter sections of a route.

For trail runners and ultrarunners, this can provide a more useful perspective on pacing than looking at raw minutes-per-mile or minutes-per-kilometer data alone.

Trail Running and Ultramarathon Tools

The Enduro 2 includes features specifically relevant to long-distance trail competition. Trail Run VO2 Max adjusts performance estimates to account for changing trail and terrain conditions, while the dedicated ultrarun activity profile provides tools appropriate for extended events.

Garmin's Rest Timer allows ultrarunners to separately record time spent at aid stations or checkpoints. Instead of treating every stop as ordinary inactive time, athletes can review those periods as part of their race strategy after the event.

Training Readiness and Performance Metrics

Long-distance performance depends as much on recovery and workload management as individual workouts. The Enduro 2 combines recent activity, physiological measurements, and recovery information to provide additional context around training.

  • Training Readiness: Uses factors including sleep, recovery time, HRV status, and recent training load to help assess readiness for demanding exercise.
  • Training Status: Evaluates recent training history and physiological data to provide context around current fitness and recovery.
  • Real-Time Stamina: Helps runners and cyclists monitor exertion and estimated remaining performance capacity during supported activities.
  • Trail Run VO2 Max: Adjusts cardiovascular fitness estimates for the changing terrain encountered during trail running.
  • PacePro: Provides pacing guidance that can account for course profile and elevation changes.
  • Recovery Time: Estimates how much recovery may be appropriate before another demanding workout.

Sunlight-Visible MIP Display

The Enduro 2 uses a 1.4-inch sunlight-visible transflective memory-in-pixel display rather than an AMOLED panel. Its 280 x 280-pixel screen is designed around outdoor visibility and power efficiency.

This is an important distinction for buyers comparing Garmin watches. An AMOLED display offers greater contrast, deeper colors, and higher resolution, while the Enduro 2's MIP display consumes significantly less power and remains easy to read in bright sunlight. For a watch built around multiday endurance use, Garmin prioritizes runtime and outdoor readability.

Health, Sleep and Recovery Monitoring

The Enduro 2 can be worn continuously between training sessions to collect health and recovery information over time. Garmin includes wrist-based heart rate monitoring, Pulse Ox, respiration tracking, stress monitoring, advanced sleep tracking, and Body Battery energy monitoring.

These measurements are particularly useful when considered as trends rather than isolated readings. Sleep quality, resting heart rate, recent training load, and other data can provide additional context when deciding whether to train hard, recover, or adjust an upcoming workout.

Multisport Capability Beyond Running

Although Enduro 2 is heavily optimized for endurance and trail athletes, it is not limited to running. Garmin includes activity profiles and performance tools for cycling, mountain biking, hiking, climbing, swimming, skiing, strength training, adventure racing, and numerous other sports.

This makes it practical for athletes whose training changes throughout the year or combines several disciplines within the same event.

Battery Life

  • Smartwatch Mode: Up to 34 days / 46 days with solar
  • Battery Saver Watch Mode: Up to 111 days / 550 days with solar
  • GPS Only: Up to 110 hours / 150 hours with solar
  • All Satellite Systems: Up to 78 hours / 96 hours with solar
  • All Satellite Systems + Multi-Band: Up to 68 hours / 81 hours with solar
  • All Satellite Systems + Music: Up to 20 hours
  • Max Battery GPS: Up to 264 hours / 714 hours with solar
  • Expedition GPS: Up to 77 days / 172 days with solar

Solar battery estimates depend on sufficient light exposure. Garmin's smartwatch solar estimates assume all-day wear with approximately three hours per day outdoors in 50,000-lux conditions, while GPS solar estimates assume use in 50,000-lux conditions. Actual battery life varies with environment, GPS mode, sensors, wireless connectivity, music, and other enabled features.
