Description

Marlin 70453 Model 1894 Trapper 10mm Auto 16.1" Lever-Action Rifle, Stainless/Black

The Marlin Model 1894 Trapper 70453 adapts the traditional Model 1894 lever-action platform to the rimless 10mm Auto cartridge. Introduced by Marlin in 2025 as the first lever-action rifle chambered in 10mm Auto, it combines a 10-round tubular magazine with a compact 16.1-inch stainless steel barrel, stainless receiver, Skinner sights, and black laminate furniture.

The chambering is the defining feature of this Trapper configuration. The Model 1894 has historically been associated with revolver cartridges such as .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum; the 10mm Auto version applies the same compact lever-gun format to a cartridge far more commonly encountered in semi-automatic pistols.

Marlin keeps the rest of the rifle closely aligned with the established Trapper formula: short barrel, matte stainless construction, aperture sights, laminate furniture, and a threaded muzzle. At 33.25 inches overall and 6.3 pounds, it remains a compact Model 1894 despite carrying ten rounds in the magazine.

Model 1894 Chambered in 10mm Auto

The 70453 is chambered specifically for 10mm Auto and uses a 10-round tubular magazine. Incorporating a rimless semi-automatic pistol cartridge into a Model 1894 is mechanically significant because the platform has traditionally been built around rimmed revolver cartridges.

Marlin developed this version around factory 10mm Auto ammunition rather than treating the chambering as a simple barrel change. The result preserves the loading gate, tubular magazine, exposed hammer, and lever-operated action of the Model 1894 while using a cartridge associated primarily with modern autoloading handguns.

16.1-Inch Stainless Steel Barrel

The rifle uses a 16.1-inch cold hammer-forged stainless steel barrel with six-groove rifling and a 1:16 right-hand twist. The short barrel is consistent with the Trapper series concept, keeping overall length to 33.25 inches.

The muzzle is threaded 5/8x24 and supplied in the factory threaded configuration. This is an important specification to note when comparing the 10mm Trapper with other Model 1894 variants or when confirming the rifle's exact factory configuration.

Matte Stainless Construction

The receiver, barrel, lever, and magazine tube use stainless steel construction with a non-glare matte stainless finish. Marlin pairs the metalwork with a black laminate stock and forend rather than traditional walnut.

This finish combination is characteristic of the modern Trapper series and separates the rifle visually and materially from traditionally finished Model 1894 configurations with blued steel and walnut furniture.

Skinner Sight System

The rifle is equipped with a Skinner blade front sight and an adjustable Skinner rear sight. The receiver-mounted aperture arrangement provides a different sight picture from the traditional semi-buckhorn sights found on many lever-action rifles.

The sight system also maintains the compact, iron-sighted layout of the Trapper series without requiring an optic as part of the factory configuration.

Compact Trapper Dimensions

With a 16.1-inch barrel, 33.25-inch overall length, and 6.3-pound listed weight, the 10mm Model 1894 retains the short dimensions that define Marlin's Trapper series.

The black laminate stock has a 13.38-inch length of pull. Combined with the short barrel and ten-round magazine capacity, the dimensions produce a substantially different configuration from longer sporting versions of the Model 1894.

A New Chambering for the Model 1894

Marlin's decision to chamber the Model 1894 in 10mm Auto gives this rifle a specific place in the modern development of the platform. When announced in 2025, Marlin described it as the first lever-action rifle chambered for the cartridge.

The historical interest comes from the mechanical pairing itself: a cartridge developed for semi-automatic handguns used in a compact tubular-magazine lever action derived from a 19th-century design. Beyond the chambering, the 70453 remains recognizably a modern Marlin Trapper, with its short stainless barrel, matte metalwork, laminate furniture, exposed hammer, and Skinner sight system.
