Overview
Franchi 41170 Instinct LX 20 Gauge 28" Over/Under Shotgun
The Franchi Instinct LX 41170 is a 20-gauge over/under shotgun configured with 28-inch barrels, 3-inch chambers, engraved case-hardened receiver, and AA-grade walnut furniture. The LX designation places this model above a basic field-grade over/under by combining the Instinct action with upgraded wood and a more traditional case-hardened presentation.
The 20-gauge chambering and 28-inch barrel set give the shotgun a conventional field and sporting configuration, while the case-hardened receiver and walnut stock provide the visual treatment associated with traditional European over/under shotguns.
20 Gauge with 28-Inch Barrels
This configuration uses 28-inch barrels and 3-inch chambers. The barrel length gives the shotgun the proportions expected from a general-purpose field over/under without moving into the longer barrel lengths commonly associated with dedicated clay-target guns.
As an over/under, the Instinct LX carries two chambers in a vertically stacked barrel set, providing a mechanically simple two-shot configuration without a tubular or detachable magazine.
Case-Hardened Receiver
The receiver uses a case-hardened finish with engraved detailing. That finish is one of the defining visual features of the LX configuration and separates it from more utilitarian over/under models that use plain black or silver receivers.
The case-hardened treatment is paired with traditional walnut furniture rather than synthetic stocks, keeping the overall configuration consistent with the appearance of a classic field-grade double gun.
AA-Grade Walnut Furniture
Franchi equips this model with AA-grade walnut stock and forearm components. The upgraded wood is part of the factory LX specification rather than an aftermarket addition.
The walnut, engraved receiver, and case-hardened finish work together as a single factory presentation package, giving the shotgun a more refined appearance while retaining the straightforward two-barrel field configuration of the Instinct platform.
Over/Under Field Configuration
The Instinct LX uses the traditional break-action over/under layout, with one barrel positioned above the other and a two-round capacity. This arrangement keeps the action compact and eliminates the reciprocating components found in semi-automatic shotguns.
For buyers comparing exact Instinct variants, the important identifying details are the 20-gauge chambering, 28-inch barrels, 3-inch chambers, engraved case-hardened receiver, and AA-grade walnut furniture.

The Instinct LX Configuration
The Instinct LX is defined less by added mechanical complexity than by its combination of traditional over/under construction and upgraded factory finish. In this 20-gauge model, Franchi pairs a 28-inch barrel set and 3-inch chambers with an engraved case-hardened receiver and AA-grade walnut.
Those details are what separate the 41170 from a basic field over/under and give the LX its place within the Instinct family: a mechanically straightforward two-barrel shotgun with a more traditional wood-and-steel presentation.
