The Benelli M4 A.I. Drone Guardian 18.5" is a specialized 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun developed for close-range counter-drone defense. Built on the combat-proven M4 platform, the Drone Guardian combines Benelli's A.R.G.O. gas operating system with Advanced Impact barrel technology, a 5-position telescoping stock, full-capacity magazine tube, and a modular aluminum Multirail handguard.

This is not simply a standard M4 with different furniture. Benelli developed the A.I. Drone Guardian around the growing threat posed by small FPV quadcopters and reconnaissance drones, giving military and professional users a dedicated last-resort option when airborne threats reach close engagement distances.

Benelli Advanced Impact Barrel Technology

The defining feature of the Drone Guardian is its Benelli Advanced Impact, or A.I., barrel system. Advanced Impact uses a patented barrel-and-choke design with a larger and longer internal cone engineered to improve shot performance at greater distances compared with conventional shotgun barrels.

For the Drone Guardian, that technology is applied to an 18.5-inch barrel specifically intended to increase hit probability, shot effectiveness, and penetration against fast-moving aerial targets.

Benelli identifies 0 to 50 meters as the optimal engagement range for the system, with the capability to reach 100 meters or more under borderline engagement conditions.

Purpose-Built Counter-Drone Configuration

Small FPV drones present a very different target than a traditional ground threat. They are compact, fast, unpredictable, and can appear with very little warning. The Drone Guardian was developed specifically around that problem.

Benelli positions the platform as a last-resort counter-UAS weapon that can be deployed at the individual, firing-team, or squad level to engage small FPV and reconnaissance drones at close range.

Benelli A.R.G.O. Operating System

The M4 A.I. Drone Guardian retains Benelli's Auto-Regulating Gas-Operated, or A.R.G.O., system. The short-stroke gas operating system is positioned close to the chamber and automatically regulates the gas required to cycle the action.

It is the same operating-system family that has made the M4 a proven military and law-enforcement shotgun platform, giving the Drone Guardian a familiar and established mechanical foundation rather than introducing an entirely new action.

18.5" Barrel & Full-Capacity Magazine

The 18.5-inch configuration uses a 3-inch Magnum chamber and an extended tubular magazine. Capacity is seven standard 2¾-inch cartridges or six 3-inch Magnum cartridges, plus one additional round in the chamber.

That combination keeps the shotgun relatively compact while providing the ammunition capacity expected from a professional M4 configuration.

5-Position Telescoping Stock

The technopolymer telescoping stock adjusts through five positions, allowing the operator to change the stock length for equipment, body armor, shooting position, or storage requirements.

With the stock extended, the listed overall length is 1005 mm. Retracted, the shotgun measures 887 mm overall.

Aluminum Multirail Handguard

The Drone Guardian uses an aluminum Multirail handguard designed to support modern mission equipment. The system incorporates M-LOK compatibility along with mounting provisions for accessory rail sections and sling hardware.

This gives the operator considerably more flexibility for configuring lights and other mission-specific accessories than a traditional polymer M4 forend.

Ghost-Ring Sights & Optics Capability

The shotgun incorporates an adjustable Ghost Ring rear sight with protected side lugs, a fixed front sight, and a Picatinny rail for mounting compatible optics.

The factory configuration is designed to support a red-dot sight co-witnessed with the mechanical Ghost Ring sighting system, giving the operator both electronic and traditional sighting options.

Built for Harsh Operating Conditions

The M4 A.I. Drone Guardian uses a black anodized receiver along with a treated barrel and protective exterior coating. Benelli specifies the surface treatment for resistance to extreme environmental conditions, erosion, corrosion, and scratching.

That protection is particularly relevant on a system intended for field deployment where exposure to weather, dirt, transport, and hard equipment use is expected.
